Trying to fight off a budding depression

My wife passed away in October of last year and until now I seem to be wrestling with the budding depression. We have no kids and the 2 of us were very close that I really feel the great loss. My wife's sister who is a  nurse recommended a tranquilizer to help me but I am not keen on taking medications for I might get addicted. What I try to do is to focus on the tv or to solve crossword puzzles. Perhaps I need to be occupied by something that is very interesting to me.

It's really sad and painful when you lose your partner especially when you both love each other so much. Most people don't know how to cope and they commit suicide just to end the suffering.

But my advice for you is to try and live your life and sooner rather than later, you will find love again.

When I see that the depression is about to set in, I just find activities that give me joy and start doing. That would help me to keep that depression at bay. To stop myself from a budding depression. I would just take a piece of music and start scoring it. And that depressive tendency would go.

Losing a partner can be depressing. But you have to learn to accept that it is the reality. You have to embrace that reality and know that you owe yourself a chance to live and do exploits for the sake of your partner's memory. Be ready to move on and live.

I’m truly sorry for your loss. Grieving is incredibly tough, especially when you were so close. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed and hesitant about medication. Keeping your mind engaged with puzzles or hobbies is a good way to cope, but also consider talking to a counselor, sometimes sharing your feelings helps lighten the burden. Taking small steps to connect with others or new interests can gently support your healing journey.

Grift can lead to depression. When I faced early signs of depression, small steps like talking to someone, keeping a routine, and getting fresh air helped me. Seeking professional support can also make a big difference.
