Primary Use: Insomnia

Dosage Forms:

Oral tablets of 3mg, and 6mg

Common Side Effects:
  • Stuffy nose
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness
  • Drowsiness
Less common side effects:
  • White patches on skin
  • Skin sores and swelling
  • Burning micturition
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Unusual behaviour and thoughts
  • Eye pain and congestion
  • Seizures
  • Chest pain
  • Sad mood
  • Negative, self-harming thoughts
  • Light-headedness
  • Hallucination, confusion
  • Mouth sores, swollen gums
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Pale skin
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Cold extremities
How long should it be taken?

Preferable for short-term use but 3mg dose has been researched on for 3 months with safe outcomes. Longer use and higher doses needs doctor’s advice.

Most common consequences of long-term use:
  • Tardive dyskinesia
  • Extrapyramidal side effects
  • Confusion, hallucination, disorientation
  • Numbness, altered tactile sensation
  • Constipation, urinary retention.
Effectiveness:

Silenor has shown to be effective at 3mg and 6mg doses in increasing total sleep duration to about half an hour without causing dependency or addiction.
