Brand Name: Ritalin

Generic Name: Methylphenidate

Primary Use: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Dosage Forms:
  • Oral tablets of 5mg, 10mg and 20mg
  • Oral Sustained Release (SR) tablets of 20mg
Common Side Effects:
  • Stomach ache
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Headache
  • Decreased appetite
  • Nausea
  • Nervousness

Serious Side Effects:
  • Psychotic symptoms in children
  • Thought and behavioural changes
  • Increased blood pressure and heart rate
  • Stroke or heart attack
  • Sudden death in cardiac cases
  • Chances of seizures if previous history of seizure present
  • Blurred vision
How long should it be taken?

Since Ritalin has misuse and dependence potential, careful individual monitoring by physician is needed. Hence, use per doctor’s advice.
