Brand Name: Lexapro

Generic Name: Escitalopram

Primary Use: Depression, General Anxiety Disorder

Dosage Forms:
  • Oral tablets of 5mg, 10mg and 20mg
  • Oral solution of 1mg/mL
Common Side Effects:
  • fever
  • Unsteadiness
  • Difficulty in breathing or swallowing
  • seizure
  • headache
  • itching
  • joint pain
  • rash, hives or blisters
  • difficulty in thinking, memory and concentration.
  • Painful urination
  • Abnormal excitement
Serious side effects that need medical attention:
  • swelling of face, tongue, lips or eyes
  • abnormal bleeding
  • Epistaxis
  • Rapid heart rate, confusion, agitation and sweating, loss of coordination
  • Hallucinations, severe muscle stiffness, nausea or vomiting.

How long should it be taken?

Use for 7-9 months after the alleviation of symptoms of the primary disease.

Most common consequences of long-term use:
  • Lower sex drive
  • Difficulty in getting erection
