The Need To Fit In

Something I've noticed is that social media is causing Gen Zers to do disgusting and embarrassing things to try and get trendy. Does anyone else notice this problem. I feel like it's causing havoc on people's minds.

Honestly young people have always tried to do dumb things to fit in with others. We're just seeing it more with Gen Z and the younger generation on social media since it's very widespread, moreso than it was when younger millennials were growing up.

Social media is making people feel pressured to blend it and show. Young people don't want to be left out and they are ready to go the extra mile to fit in and get validation. That is obviously not good for society.

The need to fit in can have both positive and negative effects. People always want to belong which lead to a sense of belonging and social acceptance, But it causes anxiety, stress, and self-doubt. it is bad to me as it kills individuality, creativity, and self-expression.

I see Gen Z’s need to fit in driven by social media pressures, like curating perfect Instagram feeds, or cultural trends, like chasing TikTok fame. It fuels anxiety, 70% feel peer pressure to conform. Comparing looks or lifestyles online, like at campus parties, heightens insecurity. Encouraging self-expression over conformity helps Gen Z find true belonging.
