How have the digital age and social media impacted the mental health of Gen Z individuals, and what strategies can be adopted to promote a healthier relationship with technology?

Social media and digitization has really helped Gen Z with their mental health being that they can easily connect with people and get emotional support for any emotional challenges they have. On the other side, social media has exposed Gen Z people to cyber bullying. That has affected the psyche of many Gen Z people. Some have even become suicidal.

Gen Z individuals experience severe mental health due to excessive use of social media platforms. To minimizing negative digital effects, people need to establish areas where screens are forbidden and time for offline entertainment. The digital safety education is also very important in this regard.

Gen Zers have been primed to always seek validation in everything. That's a severe mental pressure caused by the social media. That's why a Gen Zer would immediately get depressed when they don't get attention they crave. That's what social media has made them to be.

To promote a healthier relationship with technology, individuals can practice mindful use of tools. They need to engage in digital detoxes, and prioritize real-world connections There to be setting limits on screen and finding ways to disconnect from devices.

I see the digital age and social media impacting Gen Z’s mental health by amplifying anxiety and depression. About 42% report feeling worse due to platforms like Instagram. Constant comparison, like envying influencers’ lives, and FOMO from seeing party posts fuel insecurity. Cyberbullying, like harsh comments on TikTok, hits hard, with 26% experiencing it. Yet, I find online communities, like mental health forums, offer support.
