How Does Social Media Impact Mental Health in Relationships?

Jealousy, comparison, and constant availability can breed anxiety between partners and friends. Do you think social media is making trust harder to build, or just exposing existing insecurities?

I have seen social media create trust issues in romantic relationships. The lady was always spiked if a lady liked or commented on my social media post. It generated so much insecurity for her which affected her mental health causing her to be depressed most of the time. I just stopped social media for the rest of the relationship to protect her mental health.

The age of social media has made so many people to believe that digital engagements are substitute for genuine closeness in relationships. That's why you see people that talk everyday on social media have real issues when they stay together offline. That's because they have not built emotional intimacy beyond timeline stories.

I think social media amplifies what’s already there. If someone’s insecure or distrustful, constant exposure to others’ lives can make it worse. It’s not always the root cause, but it definitely fuels comparison and overthinking. Building trust now requires more intentional communication and boundaries than ever before.
