Chronic loneliness and exclusion can impact emotional well-being and cognitive function over time. Community and allyship play a crucial role in healing. What strategies can help break cycles of isolation?

I am not a member of LGBTQ+ community, but I’ve seen how social isolation can deeply affect mental health over time. The fear of rejection or discrimination, like being shunned at a family gathering or avoiding public spaces due to potential hostility, often leads to loneliness. I’ve noticed friends withdrawing, skipping social events, or hiding their identity, which compounds feelings of disconnection. Research shows LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality, transgender people are nearly four times as likely to experience mental health conditions due to stigma and exclusion.
